Thailand, prepared.
A practical starting point for your route.
Thailand at a glance
Combine Bangkok, northern cities and coastal destinations at a realistic pace. Allow travel days between regions rather than treating the whole country as one resort.

Before you travel
Check entry rules for your nationality, passport and purpose of travel. TDAC is an arrival form, not a visa; use the official site and check the submission window.
Check entry information
Internet & eSIM
Compare a registered local SIM, a compatible travel eSIM and home-carrier roaming. Download offline maps and keep your accommodation address accessible.

Money & payments
The currency is the Thai baht (THB). Keep a cash backup and check your bank’s overseas, ATM and conversion terms. Do not assume every merchant accepts your card.

Getting around
Plan city journeys and intercity transfers separately. Check rail, bus and ferry timetables with operators; confirm taxi or transfer terms before leaving.
Transport information
Weather & seasons
Weather differs by region and coast. Check forecasts for each stop, leave flexibility for rain and heed marine warnings before island trips.

Prepare your trip
Check current entry requirements through Thai e-Visa and your Thai embassy. Eligibility depends on nationality, trip purpose and length; do not infer it from another traveller’s experience.
Check whether you must submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card. The official FAQ specifies submission within three days before arrival, including the arrival date; enter passport, journey and accommodation details on the official site.
TDAC is not a visa. Keep copies of your passport, bookings and insurance available offline. Review your insurer’s activity exclusions before scooter, water-sport or trekking plans.
Choose a manageable route: Bangkok for urban sights, Chiang Mai for the north, and Phuket, Krabi or Ko Samui for the coast. Check actual transfer time before adding another stop.
Prepare your phone before departure. Check eSIM support and carrier unlocking, compare validity and activation rules, and save setup instructions. Your bank’s access method should work independently of one mobile connection.
Transport and payment planning
Bangkok urban transport, intercity trains and coaches, and island connections require different planning. Use official operator timetables and allow a buffer between flights, ferries and onward travel.
Confirm the destination, agreed fare or meter arrangements and luggage terms for a taxi or transfer. Save your accommodation address and an offline map; use a service whose booking details and support you can retain.
Carry Thai baht for small purchases and keep another payment method separate. Check fees and exchange terms before withdrawing or exchanging money; compare any offered currency conversion with your bank’s terms.
Weather and practical advice
Check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast for the actual province and travel dates. Northern cities and the Gulf and Andaman coasts can have different conditions; a country-wide seasonal slogan is insufficient.
Bring sun protection, drinking water and rain protection appropriate to your route. Observe beach and boat warnings, leave room to change island plans, and check local air-quality information before outdoor activities.
Dress and behave respectfully at temples, follow posted rules and ask before photographing people. Save your insurer’s contact and accommodation details; Thailand’s Tourist Police can be reached on 1155.
